This past fall, Atlantis Centers Montessori School (ACMS) opened its doors for children ages 3 to 12 years old for the 2011 – 2012 school year. Our non-profit school is founded upon the educational legacy of Dr. Maria Montessori who believed children have a tremendous capacity to learn. ACMS, a certified International Montessori school, offers an educational program that encourages self- directed learning and independence with special attention paid to living in harmony with nature.
As an MD specializing in environmental and occupational medicine, I knew how important it was for my own children, as well as my patients, to be in a natural, “green” environment and to eat food free of additives, refined sugar, hormones, and preservatives. I envisioned an educational center that would provide non- traditional education in a natural, holistic environment free of physiological and emotional stressors. My dream has become a reality: ACMS is a safe and natural, inspiring place for children of all different backgrounds to learn and grow and thrive.
We believe in promoting early academic achievement in a multicultural environment. Maria Montessori understood that all children are curious by nature and have a deep capacity to learn. Atlantis Centers Montessori School shares the same philosophy. At the school, children as young as three years old are learning:
- Basic reading, math, and social science skills
- Multiple foreign languages
- Music notation, composers, and different musical styles
- Self-expression through art and body movement integrated with the learning curriculum
